Who We Are

IIT Kharagpur is the oldest and biggest of all IITs, established in 1951 on the blessed land of Hijli in the district of Medinipur, West Bengal. IIT Kharagpur boasts the largest and most vibrant alumni network globally, with over 85,000 members across the world. Kgp has its special place in the heart of every Kgpian, and our 2.2 km circuit runs right through it.

Today, we're excited to launch 2.2 Club - an exclusive angel investment network for IIT Kharagpur alumni.

Bringing together industry experts, business leaders, and investors from India, the USA, and beyond, we aim to harness the collective power of our alumni to support promising early-stage startups.

While we celebrate our IIT Kharagpur roots, our vision extends beyond it. Great entrepreneurs can come from anywhere, regardless of background or pedigree. We're here to back high-potential startups with funding, mentorship, and unparalleled access to our global network.

Our Funding Approach
Cheque Size
Up to ₹1 Crore per startup.
Stage
We typically write the First Cheque for early-stage startups. But we do look at special cases on a case-by-case basis

Founders should be able to clearly articulate Why Now, Why This, Why You, What's your right to win, and what's your unique insights in the market that others don't have
We're sector-agnostic and focus on startups with high potential to make an impact.

Once your application is reviewed, and your details are verified, we'll onboard you to the syndicate
Once you're onboarded, you'll start receiving alerts of deals that we're considering to invest from time to time.
Our waiting list is huge, so we'll add members in batches over the next few weeks. Please bear with us.
Things to remember
We're starting this off with just the alumni of IIT Kharagpur. We might open it up based on the demand, in the future.
Startup investments come with both high risk and high reward. Please consider before applying for this club.
How to Apply for Funding?
If you're a startup seeking funding, we'd love to hear from you! Accepting startup pitches from the best entrepreneurs around the world.
Application Steps
Review Process:
We'll carefully assess your application, so all applicant need to fill it up properly, and all the relevant details.
1:1 Call:
Initially the community heads will filter each deal. We need to form a junior associates equivalent team to do the first level filtering.
Data Request:
We'll wait for you to provide any additional information that was requested in our 1:1 calls to review them internally. We'll soon get back to you with a yes/no at this stage. If yes, the final round will be an IC call.
Investment Committee (IC) Call:
The final stage will be an IC call with alumni and industry experts in that sector. Post this, we'll share our final decision.
Decision Timeline:
Our goal is to provide you with a decision or detailed feedback within 7 days.
Introductions with VCs:
Once we've committed, we make introductions to the relevant VC Funds, so that we can close the round quickly.

We're currently focusing on entrepreneurs with at least 1 founder from IIT Kharagpur.
We'll gradually relax the criteria to have at least 1 founding team from IIT Kharagpur.
We need to decide whether we want to include IIT Bhushaneshwar, as a sister IIT within our purview.
